Footnotes

  • Similar models are illustrated in L. & Y. Adams, Meissen Portrait Figures, p. 115. Although the set of drawings for this second Cris de Paris series includes thirty-four designs, of which the last two drawings are the source for the present lot, there has been some dispute in recent years as to whether these elegantly clad figures actually belong to the Cris series, or instead represent courtly types. See Gunter Reinheckel, "Pariser Ausrufer" in Weltkunst, 1.5.92, pp. 1161-65. Another figure was sold at Bonhams New Bond Street, 14 Nov 2007 lot 176.
