A pair of Roman marble Corinthian column capitals
Circa 1st-2nd Century A.D.
Deeply carved in the round with three tiers of overlapping acanthus leaves, the upper sprays surmounted with multiple volutes scrolling outwards, the stepped abacus with concave edges and a rosette on each side, the underside drilled for mounting, 16½in (42cm) highest (2)

    The Sir Daniel Donohue Collection, California, formed before 1968. The collection was begun by the oil and cement tycoon Daniel Murphy in the 19th Century and inherited by his daughter and son-in-law, Sir Daniel Donohue and Countess Bernardine (d. 1968) who then added to the family collection.
