An Etruscan bucchero ware olpe
Circa 7th Century B.C.
The ovoid body finely incised with a band of scales and four fans below the attachment of the handle, two bands of interlocking lotus buds, and eight rays above the ring foot, all registers separated by bands of parallel lines, a twisted rope moulded in relief between the flaring neck and the shoulder and between the two rotellae over the rim, the flat handle decorated with incised dots and a vertical row of five fans, 9½in (24cm) high

    Irving F. Burton Collection, Detroit, formed between the 1950s-1970s, acquired from the UK art market.
    Accompanied by a Thermoluminescence test report from Oxford Authentication.

    A similar olpe with intricate incised decoration is in the collection of the J. Paul Getty Museum, Malibu, accession no. 86.AE.396.
