MCKISSACK (JAMES) The Marrakesh Gate, silver gelatin print, signed and dated 1935, 280 x 360mm
James McKissack is best known as a cinema architect but was also a member of the Edinburgh Photographic Society and the Royal Photographic Society. McKissack's interest in photography was probably encouraged by his father, whose obituary in 1915, described him as a well-known artist and photographer. In 1911, McKissack was the convener of the photographic section of the Fine Art display at the Scottish Exhibition of National History, Art and Industry in Glasgow. He also exhibited his own photographs on visits to mainland Europe and New York.
