Head of a boy signed 'Eardley' (lower right) oil on panel 28.5 x 18.5 cm. (11 1/4 x 7 5/16 in.)
PROVENANCE: Purchased by Ronald Craig (1927-2013) directly from Eardley's own exhibition at Gaumont Cinema, Aberdeen for 6 guineas in 1951.
Around 1947/48, Ronald Craig enrolled at Gray's School of Art, Aberdeen. His study was disrupted by National Service and he returned to complete his course once this was finished. During his time at Gray's his fellow students and friends included Eric Auld and Donald Buyers. After his graduation it was customary for students to have their own exhibition at Gray's and Ronald was able to purchase this picture after having sold two of his own paintings for 2 guineas each and borrowing a further 2 from his parents.
