PROVENANCE: The Artist's Family
Anne Estelle Rice left America for Paris in 1905 where she worked in fashion. Rice made the transition to fine art with the encouragement of John Duncan Fergusson, whom she first met in 1907. With continued support from Fergusson and their close friend Peploe, Rice went on to exhibit at the prestigious Salon d'Automne, the Salon des Independents and in London's progressive Baillie Gallery, quickly carving a name in the American press as leader in a new art movement.
