A Summer Afternoon, Iona signed 'Peploe' (lower left) oil on canvas 51.4 x 61 cm. (20 1/3 x 24 in.) Painted circa 1924
PROVENANCE: With Alex Reid & Lefevre, London
Peploe first visited Iona in 1920, inspired by his friend Cadell, and exhibited ten views of the little island at the celebrated exhibition at the Leicester Galleries in London in 1923. These sold readily. It was unusual for Peploe or Cadell to paint Iona on a clement day - both preferred the atmospheric effects of more typical 'Scottish weather'.
