Provenance: from the collection of an officer with the British forces in the 'China Expeditionary Force' 1900-1901.

    來源:1900-1901年支那派遣軍英國軍隊某隊員的收藏系列

This bowl belongs to the group of very delicate famille rose small bowls made during the Yongzheng period. Comparable examples of similar shape and variously decorated with floral branches, including a few small blossoms scattered on the interior, are illustrated in The Complete Treasure of the Palace Museum: Porcelains with Cloisonné Enamel Decoration and Famille Rose Decoration, Hong Kong, 1999, pls.70 and 72. The present lot is particularly unusual in featuring a deer combined with a crane, which together symbolise the universe enjoying springtime or longevity. This theme was particularly popular in the Qing Dynasty, when deer and cranes would be kept in Imperial gardens to convey this sentiment.

Compare a very similar bowl sold in these rooms, 11 November 2010, lot 313.
