A carnelian and jadeite Mandarin necklace
19th century
The strand of 108 carnelian beads separated every 27 beads by four larger jadeite beads, one suspending a further bead to form a double-gourd further suspending a jadeite plaque joined by a silk tassel to a pearl above a red spinel, the necklace with three further strands of aventurine beads suspending a pearl above pendants of red spinel, jadeite and sapphire, the last with a gilt cap inlaid with bright blue kingfisher feather.
