The vessel carved with great intricacy and delicacy in high relief encircled by four energetic writhing dragons in pursuit of flaming pearls amidst cloud scrolls, raised on a stepped foot surrounded by elaborate swirling waves, the cover surmounted by an openwork carving of a finial enclosing a writhing dragon, the lustrous stone of white tone with attractive apple-green inclusions, wood stand, box. 21.5cm (8in) high (4).

The deft carving of the high-relief dragon may also be compared to that on a pale grey-green jade 'dragon and phoenix' vase and cover, dated to the Qianlong period, illustrated by S.H.Hansford in Chinese Carved Jades, London, 1968, pl.87.
