Ideas of modernism came easily to Louis Siegriest, who was born at the turn of the century and was unencumbered with the trappings of older landscape traditions. His jaunty painting, Boatlanding, with its energetic directional strokes, exemplifies the bold design and animated color characteristic of his work in the 1920s.
