An inscribed carnelian snuff bottle

Qing dynasty, 1800-1900
Of rectangular form with high shoulders, carved on one side with an inscription in kaishu, the reverse with an inscription in zhuanshu, the shoulders flanked by a pair of Buddhist lion ring handles.
6.7cm high.

Sold for HK$ 800,000 inc. premium

清 1800-1900 紅玉髓雕鋪首耳詩文鼻煙壺

壺扁方形，直頸，平肩，橢圓圈足，下身微束。壺身一面陽刻「慎言語，節飲食。寡嗜欲，惜精神。」，並分別鈐一「芝」字圓印及「汀」字方印。另一面亦陽刻「持其志，無暴其氣。敏於事，而慎於言。」，並落款「一片冰心」。壺身兩側各雕一鋪首銜環耳。壺身以半透明紅玉髓作胎，暗紅質地，晶瑩潤澤。題詩中前句「持其志，無暴其氣」出自《孟子·公孫丑章句》，後一句「敏於事，而慎於言」則出於《論語》之中。
