A pink and green glass overlay 'elephant' snuff bottle
Qing dynasty, 1760-1830
The bulbous body finely carved in the form of an elephant, depicted standing on all fours, its body decorated with floral trappings, all beneath downward lappets of ruyi heads at the shoulders and a ringed neck, all against a lotus ground.
6.7cm high.

    壺呈圓形雕刻大象形,頸位有一道玄線,象回首,背上有如意紋負鞍,下飾刻有花紋的布料。粉地玻璃上先套白玻璃,決定象的大概造形,然後以不同深淡厚薄的綠玻璃作點綴,加強象腳的肌膚描繪,以及象頭及象尾的刻劃,別具心思。以大象背著一個「瓶」為題材的鼻煙壺,喻意「太平有象」,是希望歡欣和平之意。

    玻璃太平有象鼻煙壺的例子有香港邦瀚斯,瑪麗及莊智博鼻煙壺:第五部份,2012年5月27日,拍賣編號141。唯本壺是套玻璃,而瑪麗及莊智博的例子是單色玻璃。
