A turquoise porcelain reticulated 'dragon' snuff bottle
Attributable to Wang Bingrong, 1820-1860 Of flattened form, the body boldly carved and reticulated with a sinuous five-clawed dragon depicted in pursuit of a flaming pearl, all amidst stylised clouds and flame scroll, the pupils of the eyes painted black. 5.8cm high.
Exhibited: Chinese Snuff Bottles, jointly presented by Hong Kong Chinese Snuff Bottle Collectors Study Group and the Urban Council, Hong Kong, Hong Kong Museum of Art, 15 October to 26 November 1977
Illustrated: Chinese Snuff Bottles, Hong Kong Museum of Art, Hong Kong, 1977, p.45, pl.70
Although no potter's signature can be found on current lot, the style of construction and finely reticulated design is closely related to a turquoise-blue porcelain snuff bottle with Wang Bingrong mark in the Mary and George Bloch collection, illustrated by Moss, Graham and Tsang, A Treasury of Chinese Snuff Bottles: The Mary and George Bloch Collection, Vol.6, Arts of the Fire, Hong Kong, 2008, p.774, no.1358.
