Qianlong blue-enamelled three-character seal mark and of the period, 1768-1775
Of rectangular form, the clear and transparent body delicately enamelled with a continuous scene of a butterfly in flight amongst flowering plum blossoms, bamboos and pine trees, in various colours of pink, white, green, brown and yellow, the base enamelled with a three-character zhuanzhu seal mark.
6cm high.

    The present bottle belongs to a small group of enamelled glass snuff bottles, all attributed to the Imperial Palace Workshops during the Qianlong period. This group was identified as the production of the Imperial Palace Workshops by Hugh Moss as early as 1978, see Journal. The International Chinese Snuff Bottle Society, June 1978, Vol.X, no.2, p.14.

    A closely related but unmarked example from the Linda Riddell Hoffman collection was sold in our New York rooms, 22 March 2011, lot 80.     壺扁瓶形,長方形身,直頸,淺圈足。在透明玻璃上繪琺瑯彩繪歲寒三友圖,從壺身側面繪幾株梅花,盛開延生至壺身兩面,兩面再分別繪松柏和蒼松,梅花在寒冬中多多綻放,是高尚人格和清廉潔白的象徵。壺底用藍彩書「乾隆製」三字篆書款。

    此壺是屬於一組玻璃琺瑯彩鼻煙壺,在早1978年,已有研究拍出是宮廷造辦處製作的,可參見莫士撝,《The International Chinese Snuff Bottle Society Journal》,1978年6月,第10冊,編號2,頁14。

    透明玻璃上繪琺瑯歲寒三友圖鼻煙壺的例子,以載「古月軒」款為多,如 Meriem 珍藏中的例子,拍賣於紐約佳士得,2008年3月19日,拍品編號304。以及另一件Monimar舊藏,見Clare Lawrence著,《Miniature Masterpieces from the Middle Kingdom.
