Malachite is a copper carbonate hydroxide mineral. A major depositary is found in the Ural mountains in Russia.
The existing malachite snuff bottles are mostly uncarved. For a high-relief example in a darker colour, see Hugh Moss, Snuff Bottles of China, London, 1971, p.91, pl.118.
For uncarved malachite snuff bottle examples, see Bob Stevens, Snuff Bottles, New York, 1976, pp.169 & 174, pl.629 & 669; Moss, Graham & Tsang, A Treasury of Chinese Snuff Bottles: The Mary and George Bloch Collection, Vol.3, Stones other than Jade and Quartz, Hong Kong, 1998, pp.136-138, no.417, and sold in these rooms, 28 May 2010, lot 86.
素面孔雀石鼻煙壺例子有Bob Stevens, 《Snuff Bottles》, 紐約, 1976年, 頁169及174, 圖版629及669；莫士撝, Victor Graham 及曾嘉寶著，《A Treasury of Chinese Snuff Bottles: The Mary and George Bloch Collection》，第3冊，頁136-138，編號417，此鼻煙壺後拍賣於香港邦瀚斯，瑪麗及莊智博鼻煙壺珍藏：首場，2010年5月28日，拍品編號86; 及Denis S. K. Low，《More Treasures from The Sanctum of Enlightened Respect》， 香港，2002年，頁272，編號251。
