The body of compressed globular form flanked by ring handles issuing from lion masks, elaborately painted on the interior with a reclining opera singer on one side, the reverse with a portrait of two ladies with kaishu inscriptions detailing how it was presented to an associate politely referred to as 'elder brother'.

壺呈扁瓶形，方中帶圓，直口，兩側飾獸首銜環紋，橢圓形圈足。兩面均崁彩色印刷仕女圖，一面有一位仕女手持花卉紋團扇坐著，衣飾華麗，神情溫婉，其身後有另一位年紀較長的仕女，上題有「厚齋一兄大人正之，弟湯子川」。另一面有一位仕女托著腮，依附小桌側臥，其衣飾與壺正面件長仕女接近。
湯子川生平，生卒不詳，清末民初鼻煙壺內畫家，活躍於清晚期。
