An inside-painted glass 'hundred boys' snuff bottle
Ma Shaoxian, dated 1935 The interior intricately painted with four boys depicted peering into a jardinière and admiring two goldfish, one figure kneeling atop a porcelain stool, the reverse with a series of kaishu inscriptions with the signature of the artist. 7.2cm high.
Ma Shaoxian (active 1899-1935), Ma Shaoxuan's nephew, studied and inherited the painting style of Ma Shaoxuan: the style of painting scenes on one side of the bottle and writing calligraphy on the other side. The inscriptions on this bottle were taken from a poem called 'Together in the Spring', by a member of the Song Dynasty literati named Cheng Hao.
