Footnotes

  • Illustrated:
Paul Braga, San Francisco Chinese snuff bottle collectors, Part I, Arts of Asia, September-October 1983, p.109, pl.13.

The inscription reads xingshan sheshui fang wushi, which translates as 'to make an arduous journey over mountains and rivers to visit my master'.

The confident handling of the differing textures and the distinctive carving of the rockwork are features similar to a group of bottles probably representing a specific style of a single workshop in Suzhou. For closely related snuff bottles, see Moss, Graham and Tsang, A Treasury of Chinese Snuff Bottles: The Mary and George Bloch Collection, Vol.2, Quartz, Hong Kong, 1998, pp.504-546, no.367-379, where the authors identify the group as Zhiting School.

Paul Braga,《San Francisco Chinese snuff bottle collectors,Part I》,Arts of Asia,1983

參看瑪麗及莊智博收藏中幾件風格類似的瑪瑙巧作鼻煙壺,見莫士撝, Victor Graham 及曾嘉寶著,《A Treasury of Chinese Snuff Bottles: The Mary and George Bloch Collection 》,第2冊,第二部份,頁504-546,編號367-379。
