Footnotes

  • Jadeite was first introduced from Burma during the late Ming dynasty, but was rarely utilized until the latter part of the eighteenth century (after 1784) when relations with Burma were stabilized. For a double-gourd jadeite snuff bottle with similar differing tones of red in the Mary and George Bloch collection, see Moss, Graham and Tsang, A Treasury of Chinese Snuff Bottles: The Mary and George Bloch Collection, Vol.1, Hong Kong, 1995, pp.466-467, no.185, and sold in these rooms, 28 November 2011, lot 31.
