A chalcedony 'carp' snuff bottle
Qing dynasty, 1730-1850
Of flattened pear-shaped form, boldly carved on one side with a prominent goldfish, the reverse with a pagoda built on a floating rock above crashing waves, possibly the Daoist mountain of Penglai, the colour of the material varying from a rich reddish-pink to a pale white.
5.5cm high.

    壺呈扁橢圓形,掏膛規整,壺的底部通境雕水波紋,一面浮雕鯉魚,彎腰擺尾,一面浮雕一建在石上的亭台樓閣,配合下方的水波紋,表示了一座浮在水平的仙山,仿如水上蓬萊。
