An initial viewing of Asha Zero's work would suggest that he is a master of collage, who uses photographic and printed images from the pages of magazines to create his striking images. A closer inspection, however, reveals that these are in fact painstakingly re-created realist paintings, the artist skilfully using acrylic to capture the effect of mass-media junk imagery, turning it into fine art in the laborious process. His influences include street culture, skateboarding, graffiti and electronic music, all of it found in his native South Africa, where he is already well-known and widely exhibited. Given the time taken to produce each piece, it is hardly surprising that his work is now in high demand both at home and in Europe. In October 2012 he will hold his first solo exhibition numberrs in London.
