Footnotes

  • It was a Royal College funded visit to New York in 1980 which first inspired Peter Anderson's interest in street culture. During the following decade it was a subject he would return to, capturing a rarely seen, alternative 80s in the process. Anderson describes the works as depicting 'the cool attitudes of youth, hanging out, playing music and sport, posing, Urban culture, fashion and hip-hop...all seen through the viewfinder of an analog 35mm camera'. These nostalgic images portray a time which is long past, but still strangely familiar. Anderson has worked with some of the biggest names in music and film, shooting portraits of Madonna, Mick Jagger, Marvin Gaye and Robert Altman amongst many others.
