Jef Aérosol, born in the city of Nantes in 1957, was one of the first wave of stencil artists to hit France in the 1980s, with his output undoubtedly influencing many of his younger compatriots. His painting focuses on both anonymous figures from the street and luminaries of film and rock and roll, all of the work featuring his famous (and as yet unexplained) red arrow symbol. This year marks Aérosol's 30th anniversary of working in stencil and spray paint, a landmark which was celebrated with a one-man show in the gothic surroundings of the 12th Century Collégiale Saint Pierre Le Puellie in Orléans.
