A Roman banded alabaster trapezophoros terminal
circa 3rd Century A.D.
In the form of a lion's head, carved and drilled in deep relief, the sunken eyes, creased at the corners, with recessed lunate pupils, carved with flared nostrils, the mouth opened to reveal the teeth and tongue, the thick mane well defined, the curved back carved at the base with a scrolled loop, pierced at the crown of the head and also at the base of the neck with a rectangular recess for attachment, 25 wide, 28cm deep, 46cm high (9.5" wide, 11" deep, 18" high).
