A Norwegian peg tankard
probably by Hans Jorgen Blytt of Bergen, circa 1820
Of cylindrical form on three ball feet, the lower body embossed with foliate design, the lid engraved with Venus and Cupid, initials and dates '1686' and '1797', with pierced lion and eagle thumbpiece, the handle with embossed 'peg' detail and shield terminal, the interior with two pegs, height to top of thumbpiece 13.5cm.
