Hon-zukuri, iori-mune, torii-zori, o-gissaki and forged in a itame-hada forging pattern and a gunome-midare tempered edge with choji, togari, yo, utsuri, tobi-yaki, nie, ara-nie and a midare-komi boshi, the tang ubu with kessho file marks, one hole and signed Sakuyo Bakkashi Hosokawa Masayoshi and koku seal, and dated Ansei ni-nen chu-shu (Mid-autumn, 1855); one-piece gilt-copper habaki; 33 1/16in (84cm) long

In koshirae comprising a black-lacquer saya; tsuka wrapped in black silk and fitted with gilt and copper dragon menuki and shakudo migaki-ji fuchi-gashira decorated with Immortals and their attributes in iroe taka-zogan; iron sukashi tsuba carved with a tomoe and a chrysanthemum
