Attributed to Kanabo group, Muromachi period, (16th century)
The heavy blade hon-zukuri, iori-mune with a thick kasane, shallow torii-zori and an extended kissaki, forged in a flowing ko-itame and masame pattern with ji-nie, the tempered edge ko-midare within sugu-ba with ko-ashi and sunagashi and a ko-maru boshi, the tang ubu, kuri-jiri with one hole and kiri file marks, one-piece copper habaki, 28 15/16in (73.5cm) long

The koshirae comprising a leather-wrapped saya lacquered glossy black, the leather knob kojiri and the koiguchi with traces of gilding, the tsuka wrapped in leather and fitted with heavy leather fuchi-gashira decorated in gilt, the kashira applied with a soft-metal figure of Fudo Myo-o in flames; shakudo and gilt menuki carved as sprays of lilies; Kyoto iron sukashi tsuba with stylized birds in flight

With Hozon Token (Sword worthy of preserving) certificate no. 334611 issued by the Nihon Bijutsu Token Hozon Kyokai (The Society for the Preservation of the Japan Art Sword), dated 1994.3.16.
