Formerly party of the White House motor pool, used by President Lyndon B. Johnson and Secretary of State Henry Kissinger
1965 Cadillac Fleetwood Series 75 Limousine
Chassis no. S5154317
In its long history, Cadillac has always produced formal cars built for the purpose of transporting the fortunate few. Stylish, comfortable, and reliable, Cadillacs have formed the basis for the White House motor pool for the majority of the time that there has been a White House motor pool—exempting the earliest cars used and the period following the Roosevelt era when Truman and his successors briefly chose Lincolns.

The Fleetwood Series 75 was the top-of-the-line Cadillac sedan at the time. While the styling had mellowed quite a bit since the 1950s when the 36" high fins appeared on the DeVilles, GM design Chief Bill Mitchell retained the basic front end styling and kept the vestigial fins. Although the Fleetwood Series 66 sedans, and every other Cadillac for that matter, had gone to a more modern windscreen with separate front quarter windows, the top of the line Series 75 retained the older style wrap-around screen that had been a fixture since the mid-50s.

Sitting on a 149.8" wheelbase and clocking in at 243.3" overall, it was definitely a vehicle meant to be driven in as finding a parking space would no doubt be a challenge. Powered by a 390 cubic inch OHV V8 producing 325hp, the engine's displacement and output was unchanged from the prior three years but motor had been subject to a complete redesign for the 1964 model year.

This Fleetwood Series 75 was supplied new to the US Federal Government for the purpose of White House executive security transportation. Among the dignitaries who have graced the back seat, President Lyndon Baines Johnson and his wife along with Secretary of State Henry Kissinger are the most famous. Following its use by Uncle Sam, the car was sold to astrologer columnist Jeanne Dixon. Eventually, the stars foretold that it was time to sell the car, at which point it was purchased by the vendor's father, a real estate developer and civic leader in the Washington, D.C. area.

Now owned by only its fourth owner, it is offered today in splendid shape for a professional car, with just over 83,500 miles showing on the odometer. With the election around the corner, it's worth a reminder that one must never be unprepared for a Presidential visit, in which case it is good to have a suitable vehicle in which to cover chauffeuring duties.
