The Taplow Troop Bucks Yeomanry Cavalry Officer's Helmet c1850
An early and extremely fine example, the skull being of heavy gauge black patent leather, embellished with gilt laurel and acanthus sprays, a gilt metal trim around the bottom edges. The two part gilt metal frontal plate of multi-rayed outline is overlaid with the Royal Arms they in turn upon a background of the Prince of Wales's crest and motto, scrolls above the Royal supporters, 'Taplow Yeomanry'. Gilt metal acanthus leaf plume holder and base of 1847 pattern, original oak-leaf pattern gilt metal chin scales (lacking two elements) with lions' masks side ornaments. Sweatband and lining present, the crown with trade label for 'Andrews Helmet Maker To Her Majesty 9 Pall Mall'. Original black swan's feather plume with large gilt metal rose finial (the feathers with some decay).
