By Hara Yoyusai, late 19th century
Of upright form, lacquered in gold and coloured togidashi with a Portuguese monkey-trainer, his performing monkey, wearing a short coat, shown on the reverse beneath swirling clouds, details of e-nashiji and inlaid aogai, the interior of nashiji, signed Yoyusai; with simulated coral ojime. 9.2cm (3 5/8in).
