A bronze 'Buddhist lion' incense burner
Early Qing dynasty
Sturdily cast in cylindrical form rising from a short foot, the body framed within a lower band of lotus petals and an upper frieze of meandering lotus scrolls, all flanked by a pair of Buddhist lion handles on each side, the mythical beasts with furry coiled hair, sharpened teeth and emanating ferocious expression, the base cast with a six-character Xuande apocryphal mark.
