Shouxing or Shoulao is easily recognisable by his domed forehead and the peach which he carries as a symbol of immortality. Known by many as the God of Longevity, he is often portrayed as smiling and friendly and is seen here granting the fruit of longevity to the children. Legend has it that Fuxing risked his life by writing a memorial to the Emperor to save the people from suffering. Upon his death, he was much venerated as a deity and became the personification of good fortune. He is seen here surrounded by children.

Both Shouxing and Fuxing, together with Luxing, forms the auspicious concept of 'fulushou', which translates as 'fortune, prosperity and longevity. Vases with such auspicious blessings are thought to be perfect gifts during brithdays and other forms of celebrations.

Examples of rouleau vases with various subjects and enamelled in polychrome palatte of 'wucai' are presented in the Qing court collection, see Porcelains in Polychrome and Contrasting Colours. The Complete Collection of the Treasures of the Palace Museum, Shanghai, 1999, pp.70-80, no.65-73.
