An Yixing stoneware teapot and cover
Qing dynasty, signed Shao Quanyin The compressed cylindrical body issuing a short spout, surmounted by a domed cover with a double-peach knop, the tripod-like dongpo style overhead handle rising from the shoulder, the underside and the base impressed with seal marks. 13.5cm long.
Shao Quanheng (style name 'Quan Yin', pseudonym 'She Da') was an Yixing master of the Xianfeng and Tongzhi reigns. He belonged to the Shao family of Chuanfu, Yixing, and was proficient in making teapots. The saying, 'From Shao's teapots, water flows into a melodious tune' affirms his devotion to perfecting the spout. Shao first created teapots, then in 1889 he established the Quan Yin Pottery Store, inscribing all wares with a square bordered mark 'Quan Yin She Ji'.
