A small Yixing stoneware inscribed teapot and cover
Guangxu, cyclically dated wuyi year corresponding to 1878, incised by Jin Shiheng Of cylindrical form, set with a short spout and simple loop handle, the body incised with inscriptions in caoshu, the clay of a reddish hue. 10.5cm long.
The inscription literally translated as 'living poor but willing to spend on books; garden is too amall but willing to spare a place for planting bamboo". The inscription is cyclically dated to 'march, wuyin year of Guangxu reign of the Qing dynasty (1878)', and 'eleventh year of Meiji period of Japan', with the signature of 'Jin Shiheng at Jumondo, Tokoname.'
