An Yixing stoneware 'lotus' teapot and cover and a small vase
Qing dynasty
Of lotus flower form, applied with a straight spout in the form of wrapped lotus leaves, the handle formed as a lotus root, the cover modelled with loose seeds with one forming the knop, the body modelled with lotus petals with inscriptions and signature, together with a small vase moulded with geometric diaper painted in dark-brown slip, the base with a shenxi seal mark.
The largest: 16.5cm long. (2).

Footnotes

  • Shenxi is recorded in traditional Yixing connoisseurship as being active in the Daoguang period, a contemporary Yixing potter of Yang Pengnian, with his artist's name, ziyi, but little is known of him.

    壺成蓮花形,蓮蓬蓋,蓮子鈕,捲曲荷葉成短直流,蓮藕節成壺柄,由八片荷花葉從下往上包裹壺身,壺身刻詩文;小瓶鼓腹,長頸,撇口,圈足,足內鈐「申錫」篆文方印。
