A pair of Yixing stoneware 'boys and buffalo' water dropper
Late Qing dynasty / early Republican, signed Wen Ji
Each naturalistically modelled in the form of a boy climbing onto recumbent water buffalo, its tail and the boy's hair are painted in brown coloured slip, the boy's hat removable to form the finger hole, the body impressed with a seal mark.

    「聞記」篆文方印

    硯滴作水牛狀,牛仰頭臥身,一小童左腳高蹬,右腳墊起,正從牛身一測爬向牛背,後背一頂草帽作硯滴進水孔蓋,水牛口部微張,作出水孔,小童頭髮及牛尾鬃毛用棕色彩泥泥咴。硯滴造型憨態可掬,雅俗並存。

    聞記是清末明初「金榮」之店鋪名。
