Opaque watercolor and gold on paper, Guler, mid 18th century
Wearing a lemon yellow jama, embroidered with delicate red and green flowers, seated a bold red-stripped carpet, his gold and green turban is adorned with two lotus buds, and his expression suggest contemplation with his right hand casually resting on the kattar secured in the sash.

  • Compare with a portrait of raja Govardhan Chand of Guler attributed to Nainsukh in the Fine Arts Museum, Boston, (17.2707). Both figures share the same treatment of the turban and quality of line in rendering the facial features. Also compare with an unidentified portrait in Cilette Keller, Miniatures Indiennes, Neuchatel, 1980, no. 81.
