A lacquer gilt copper alloy repoussé figure of Vajrapani
Mongolia, 18th century
Traces of cold gold paint and pigment; standing pratyalidhasana on a lotus throne with his right hand raised that would have held a vajra and his left hand at his heart in a threatening gesture (tarjani mudra). His large oval terrifying face is framed by flaming orange hair secured by a five-leaf crown. He wears robes draped over his shoulders open at the front showing long beaded necklaces.
