A thangka of Avalotikesvara
Distemper on cloth, Bhutan, 19th century
With four arms holding a mala and lotus blossom and the primary pair joined at the heart, wearing a green scarf over the antelope skin and a lower garment of green and red gold embroidered silks, seated on a white lotus platform and framed by a gold-rimmed blue areola and orange nimbus, with Manjushri and Vajrapani in the front flanking precious jewels and ritual implements. Mounted and stretched with Japanese brocades.
