A pair of copper alloy repousse and polychrome arhats
Tibeto-Chinese, 17th century
The figure on the right can be identified as Gopaka, as he holds a bound sutra in his left hand. The identification of the other arhat is unclear as the original attributes that he held in his hand are no longer extant. Each is finely modeled with distinctive and expressive facial features. Both figures are attired in sumptuous flowing robes, defined by polychrome decoration. They are seated on meditation mats that are draped over double cushion platforms with prominent cartouches.
