Two Tibetan Thankas of Buddha at Bodhgaya and a Sakya Lama
Distemper on cloth, Tibet, 17th/18th century
The Buddha Shakyamuni is seated within the Bodhgaya temple complex with his hand in the earth-touching mudra, various lay people and bodhisattvas surround the complex and make offerings, and the four corners have vignettes depicting important scenes from his life.
The Sakya lama is seated on a cushion platform and wearing voluminous robes, his right hand in vitarka mudra and his left holds a cloth covered sutra, he is surrounded by various protector deities and two lineage masters.
