  • Husain worked for a furniture shop in Mumbai during the 1940s. His work there included the designing and crafting of toys. Upon the birth of his first daughter Raisa, Husain began to create wooden toys as part of his own work.

    A set of these toys were featured in the exhibit "Celebrating Husain" held at the Delhi Art Gallery, August 7, 2011, shortly after the artist's death.

    Provenance: The consignor's father served as a U.S. Foreign Service Officer in Bombay, India, starting in 1952. Through both professional and social-circles the the consignor's family became personally acquainted with M.F. Husain. Husain's visits to the consignor's apartment during his childhood are well and fondly remembered. This piece was purchased directly from the artist during the early 1950s.
