Provenance: The consignor's father served as a U.S. Foreign Service Officer in Bombay, India, starting in 1952. In 1962 the family of the consignor shifted to Calcutta. There they became friendly with Mr. Jamini Roy. Roy spent time in their home and they made visits to his studio. Over the course of their acquaintance four paintings were purchased, one of which was lost to a house fire in 1977.
