4to (202 x 142 mm). [10], 128 pp. Half-page engraving of the arms Title-page border of printer's flowers, woodcut initials. Period limp vellum, rawhide ties, edges sprinkled in red. Custom chemise and slipcase (stained). Upper hinge cracked.
Provenance: early owner's monogram branded on top edge; Estelle Doheny (morocco bookplate, her sale, Christie's New York, Feb 1, 1988, lot 291).
FIRST EDITION, FINE COPY. Huastec (or Wastek) is a Mayan language, still spoken by about 150,000 people, primarily in San Luis Potosi and northern Veracruz. This manual was compiled by order of Archbishop Lorenzana of Mexico and includes of Spanish-Huastec dictionary on pp 44-88. Medina 5187; Sabin 94355.
