4to (194 x 137 mm). A-H8/4 I6 K4. Modern calf blindstamped in period style. Top corners of A1-A2 repaired, toning and intermittent small stains including some dampstain, marginalia in a several hands, mostly early.
EARLY EDITION OF THE "FIRST KNOWN ATTEMPT AT A POETIC DICTIONARY" (Renouard). The first edition was also by Parfraet, 3 years earlier in 1498 (not in Goff). Only the 1505 and later editions appear in the auction records. Torrentinus was born in Zwolle (just north of Deventer) and taught rhetoric at Groningen. His work was very successful. It appeared in dozens of revised and enlarged editions throughout the 16th century. Not in Adams (their earliest is 1503).
