SPANISH ACADEMY—DICTIONARY RULES.
Manuscript on paper, Nuevas reglas que ha formado la Academia Español para la correccion, y aumento del diccionario. [Madrid], 1757. 35 leaves recto and verso plus several blanks, small 4to, in brown ink, title and incipit pages in decorative borders, two decorative initials. Period vellum over boards (spine label lacking). Title leaf working loose, hinges worn and with some worming, overall excellent.

The Real Academia Española was founded in 1713 and in 1741 first published the Ortographía, the official Spanish orthography. The Academia remains to this day the institution responsible for promoting linguistic unity across the hispanophone world. The RAE dictionary (Diccionario de la lengua española de la Real Academia Española), to which this manuscript relates, was first published in 1780. The most recent edition appeared in 2009.
