2 volumes bound in 1. 4to (199 x 150 mm). Period half-pigskin and wooden boards, tooled in blind (lacking catches and two clasps). Minor worming to margins of first and last few gatherings, holes to title page of Cicero with loss of a few letters, approximately 3" chip to rear board.

FIRST EDITION of Dasypodius' influential work. "Modern German lexicography begins with the Latin-German dictionary of ... Dasypodius. Up to 1600, some 30 editions are known. Printings and revisions continued in the seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries...." (Jones, Landmarks in German Lexicography, p 134). Copies on the market are scarce; ABPC returns no records for the first edition. Not in Adams (their earliest edition being 1540).
