From a Prominent European Collection,
c.1976 Puch M50 Grand Prix 49cc Moped
Frame no. 2105581
Engine no. 2103987
Firmly established as a maker of two-stroke lightweights, the Austrian firm of Steyr-Daimler-Puch gained in popularity during the moped boom of the '70s and early '80s, Unlike the US market, which was mainly the recipient of the popular Maxi range that catered to commuters, a range of far more exciting models, including this M50 Grand Prix, was available in Europe.
Bike magazine testers were pleasantly surprised by the Grand Prix's performance back in 1975, finding it "enough to pass lorries when its speedo clocks 45mph (yes, 45mph) and not take a two-mile straight to accomplish the task either." Top speed was estimated at 50mph and the little Puch returned 113mpg, even when thrashed.
This M50 Grand Prix represents the ultimate performance Puch and the pinnacle of '70s sub-50cc performance. It is equipped with the most powerful drive-train, Grimeca disk brake, "mag" wheels, a rev counter and a stone guard for the headlamp. Offered in original condition, this machine should require only minor recomissioning to make it roadworthy again.
