1955 BMW R60
Frame no. 555779
With Earles forks, cantilever saddle and that substantial plunger rear suspension, this R60 epitomizes the "Teutonic Look" to perfection. BMW's 600cc series began with the R67 in 1951, followed one year later by the R68 and R67/2, which put BMW on the path to produce its 100,000th postwar motorcycle in 1953. The R69 and R67/3 arrived in 1955, followed by the all-important R60. It was an immediately successful model; in fact, it is fair to say the R60 was the first of the firm's postwar machines to fully regain the sophistication and quality reputation of their pre-1940 builds.
